Chocolate Smoothie/Shake

I’m just going to call this a chocolate smoothie but you can add a lot of different ingredients to it in order to suit your own taste.  This is my all time favorite shake because I love chocolate and p-nut butter!  If you don’t like or can’t use p-nut butter then you can use almond butter.  I also just started using tahini, which is ground sesame seeds, while I was on the Standard Process detox. (You cannot eat nuts on that program.)  I wanted the taste of p-nut butter but had to find a substitute.  Tahini worked just perfectly.

This is how I make my smoothie.  It’s delicious!

2 scoops chocolate protein powder (check the single serving size on your particular powder)

1 Tab. p-nut butter, almond butter, powdered p-nut butter or tahini

1/2 banana  (When I can find them I purchase over-ripe bananas that have been “marked down” at the grocery store.  I peel them and slice them up.  Then I place the slices in a single layer on a baking sheet, freeze them for about an hour and then put them in a plastic bag. They won’t stick together in the freezer. I take out a handful and add them to my blender.)

1 handful of spinach

1/2 avocado

2 or 3 drops of chocolate flavored liquid stevia (optional)

approx. 1/2 cup liquid (water, nut milk or coconut milk)

ice cubes

Put everything in your blender and mix it all up!!  I love mine thick and creamy but you can add more liquid if you like yours “thinner”.  I promise, you won’t taste the spinach or avocado.  They add important vitamins and fats and it’s an easy way to get an extra vegetable in your daily intake.  The avocado also makes for a richer tasting smoothie and it  will help to keep you “filled up” longer.

If you don’t have p-nut butter/almond butter but you want the benefit of the nuts just throw in a few almonds, pecans or whatever nuts you have.  If you don’t like bananas then just leave them out.  If you love coconut add some to your mix.  You can always add chia or flax seeds and it will up the protein and add fiber.

If you just don’t feel like eating, try this for your meal or add it as an afternoon snack.

Because eating ice cream does my stomach no favors I can eat this smoothie and pretend!!
